Had first tutorial with Shane and about 10 of the students in design craft today, was really constructive gained a lot from it and am actually looking forward to starting my sample book this weekend. Going home for the weekend as i have Man Flu and feel as though i am dying as a man does when he has flu!! booo hoo but will manage to do some samples this weekend as i nurse myself better at home. Have picked up a few things from the tutorial the main focus being how close the relaitonship is between symbols and narrative and allthough i have looked at african textiles a valid point was made by Nina in class today that African textiles have features and symbols as well as stories and it is those symbols that give the textiles the story. It made me think am i combining symbols and narrative in my work? symbols of Wales are huge and there are so many of them and i wrote a few down during my tutorial such as
Daffodils
the dragon
welsh cakes
sheep: yes sheep shaggers!!
and so many more and i think now its time having looked at welsh textiles to look at the symbols of wales as African textiles does and i think this is where i need to go next in my sketchbook. Saw a beautiful page in Olivias sketchbook that made me want to look at the daffodil first as its such a pretty flower and this weekend im gonna start looking at a few of those things.
Been put in Shanes group need to speak to him about machine embrodiery and industrial sewing machine use within the university as i could really benefit from this.
Had very positive feedback back from the class and they all said i seem to know what im doing and i feel as though i do and dont want to come to a stand still with anything so im gonna keep going.
This weekend i need to buy clear wallets that are divided into 9 smaller pockets so i can put samples in them seal them and write using sticky labels i think it will look really effective as i can layer the pages etc and make my own sketchbook from them.
still on coach on way home but when i am home im going to start some stitch samples and learn different stitch techniques.
Looking goooodddd!!!!!!!!!! its all getting very excited must keep my head down a** up!!!
peace out x
